Witness Requirements

In Virginia, wills and medical directives require that the documents be signed in person along with two witnesses. Financial Powers of Attorney need to be signed in person with a live notary in order to be valid.

Following your initial consultation (via video or phone), our experienced estate planning attorney, Caryn West, drafts your documents. These documents will be uploaded to your secure client portal for your review. Once you approve your final documents, an appointment will be scheduled for the signing of the documents.

In order to serve our clients and maintain safe social distancing practices, we have placed a drive thru tent in our Virginia Beach office parking lot to accomplish these tasks in a safe, weather resistant environment. When you arrive for your scheduled appointment, drive into our tent, stay in your car, and our staff will come to the tent and complete the necessary signings while practicing safety guidelines the CDC recommends (gloves, masks, sanitized clipboards, and individually wrapped pens). Once the documents are finalized, you will leave with your original, signed and notarized documents along with a digital copy for your records.
