Online Shopping Tips for the Holidays
Dec 08
The end of the year is that time when we all begin shopping for the perfect holiday gifts for our loved ones, which means we spend more time in malls and on our computers visiting online retailers such as Amazon, Etsy, Target, etc. Because of the increased time spent shopping, there is an increased chance that this year is the year your information could be stolen. So, we want to remind you of the steps you can take to help protect yourself and your loved ones!
Avoid using public Wi-Fi to shop online.
Do a quick Google search for new scams running in your region or nationally. This will help you identify malicious emails or phone calls looking to take advantage of your holiday goodwill.
Always use your credit card rather than your debit card. Since your debit card links straight to your account, your finances are more immediately vulnerable.
Look over your passwords and make sure they vary from one account to the next. Password managers are great tools to help with this, because we all know it’s next to impossible to remember different passwords for all the separate accounts you maintain. We personally like www.lastpass.com, but there are others that do the trick.
Finally, remember to keep an eye on your accounts. The sooner you spot foul play, the sooner you can fix the problem.
It is not matter of “if” you will be a victim of credit fraud, it is a matter of “when” – it is only a matter of time given how wide-spread the issue is becoming. Knowing how to remedy the situation is equally as important as knowing how to try and stop it. Please contact us if you have any questions about protecting your information or rectifying a breach.
Happy holidays!
