What’s in your Vehicle?

March 19 Categorized: Credit Reporting Disputes

Car theft and identity theft.

We’ve previously discussed the importance of knowing what’s in your wallet/purse as to identity theft.  Now let’s talk about what’s in your vehicle.  While we may not be California, which is home to the top eight cities for car theft, Tidewater has its fair share and it is nationally on the rise.  Beyond the loss of your vehicle, the theft can compromise you as to identity theft if you store personal information of any kind in your vehicle.  Never store personal bills, mail, health insurance cards, social security cards, checks, or any identification cards in your vehicle. Car titles and insurance paperwork carry home address and other personal information you need to protect. Never leave any electronics (phone, laptop, game system, flash drives) in plain view – always conceal items you may leave in your car. And of course, always lock all of your doors.

The less of information you make available, the less risk you take of becoming a victim of identity theft. Identity thieves are very resourceful and prevention requires consistent diligence.  If you find you have become a victim of identity theft, please free to contact our office to discuss your situation and how we may be of service to you, (888) 691-9319. We can review your credit reports and discuss how to have them corrected.
