In October of 2018, Virginia congressional candidate Shaun Brown was faced with four federal charges for stealing money from a non-profit that fed needy children during the summer months. She was sentenced to three years in prison and one year of home confinement in March 2019.
Previously in August 2018, Brown’s federal fraud trial ended in a mistrial. This occurred because the jury could not agree unanimously on a verdict—one single juror felt strongly against Brown’s conviction.
