It’s finally Thursday, which means we’ve started to plan our weekend. Fortunately, in our community, there is no shortage of ways to spend your day or evening. Below we’ve highlighted five events that we’re especially looking forward to this weekend. Maybe we’ll see you out and about!
Bayou Boogaloo Music & Cajun Food Festival
One of the largest events happening this weekend is the annual Bayou Boogaloo & Cajun Food Festival. This a yearly happening for Norfolk that celebrates Cajun culture with great music, delicious food, and art all weekend long. It begins tomorrow at 12 pm and lasts through Sunday evening at 6 pm. Free Wine Tasting at Virginia Beach Winery
If you don’t know, you can take advantage of free wine tastings each weekend at the Virginia Beach Winery. This weekend seems like a great opportunity to sample some wines! Stop by on Friday from 4:30 pm to 8 pm to take part and you’ll definitely come home with a bottle or two to share with friends and family. For more details, visit their website.
Conversations: Contemporary Asian Art
The Hermitage is currently hosting what the Virginian Pilot referred to as one of its "most ambitious exhibitions," featuring some of the most recognizable names in contemporary Asian art including Zhang Xiaogang and Zhang Huan. The exhibit contains a mix of media forms, from metal and glass sculptures to paintings, and silk weaves. If you’re looking to take in some art this weekend, this is where to go! All the information you need is right here. (Note: This Saturday, the museum will be closed to the public for a private event, but you can visit this Friday or Sunday)
Sandstock: A Tribute to Rock-N-Roll
This Woodstock inspired event will have national and local tribute bands performing some of the most iconic rock music from the 60s (as well as more contemporary acts) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original Woodstock Music and Arts Festival. Sandstock is happening all weekend long and is free to the public. It’s happening at the Oceanfront on 24th street and doors open at 5:30 pm tomorrow evening. For all the details, click here.
Last but not least, we want to tell you about a whiskey tasting happening at Saint Germain right in downtown Norfolk. From 4 pm – 6 pm you can enjoy two hours of fine whiskey tasting.
