Let's Get Local! What we're looking forward to this weekend!

Posted on Jun 26, 2019

It’s finally Thursday, which means we’ve started to plan our weekend. Fortunately, in our community, there is no shortage of ways to spend your day or evening. Below we’ve highlighted five events that we’re especially looking forward to this weekend. Maybe we’ll see you out and about!

Let's Get Local

Bayou Boogaloo Music & Cajun Food Festival

One of the largest events happening this weekend is the annual Bayou Boogaloo & Cajun Food Festival. This a yearly happening for Norfolk that celebrates Cajun culture with great music, delicious food, and art all weekend long. It begins tomorrow at 12 pm and lasts through Sunday evening at 6 pm. Tickets are for sale now, but you can check it out for free from 12 – 2 pm on Friday afternoon!

Free Wine Tasting at Virginia Beach Winery

If you don’t know, you can take advantage of free wine tastings each weekend at the Virginia Beach Winery. This weekend seems like a great opportunity to sample some wines! Stop by on Friday from 4:30 pm to 8 pm to take part and you’ll definitely come home with a bottle or two to share with friends and family.

Conversations: Contemporary Asian Art

The Hermitage is currently hosting what the Virginian Pilot referred to as one of its "most ambitious exhibitions," featuring some of the most recognizable names in contemporary Asian art including Zhang Xiaogang and Zhang Huan. The exhibit contains a mix of media forms, from metal and glass sculptures to paintings, and silk weaves. If you’re looking to take in some art this weekend, this is where to go!

Sandstock: A Tribute to Rock-N-Roll

This Woodstock inspired event will have national and local tribute bands performing some of the most iconic rock music from the 60s (as well as more contemporary acts) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original Woodstock Music and Arts Festival. Sandstock is happening all weekend long and is free to the public. It’s happening at the Oceanfront on 24th street and doors open at 5:30 pm tomorrow evening.

Whiskey Palooza

Last but not least, we want to tell you about a whiskey tasting happening at Saint Germain right in downtown Norfolk. From 4 pm – 6 pm you can enjoy two hours of fine whiskey tasting. Tickets are $20 and it includes complimentary flight, whiskey shot glass, and discounted prices on other cocktails. Space is limited to 40 people so if you’re interested, reserve your spot now!

We hope you have a fun and safe weekend, and we'll check back in next Thursday!
