Virginia Dog Laws In Effect July 1, 2020
There are new laws in the state of Virginia to help protect canines.
Effective July 1, 2020, it will be ILLEGAL to keep a dog tethered outside if:
- • 85 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
- • 32 degrees Fahrenheit or lower
- • During a heat advisory, hurricane, tropical storm, or server weather warning
A Tether must be 15 feet in length or four times the length of the animal, as measured from the tip of its nose to the base of its tail, whichever is greater.
Dogs must ALWAYS have food, water, shelter, exercise, space to move around and veterinary care.
