Oliver The Service Dog

Oliver's Graduation

August 6th, 2018

Last night I graduated from basic obedience class and I have a picture to prove it! All of the other puppies were much smaller, better behaved, and they went right back to their owners. I, on the other hand, decided it would be fun to run all around the room and use the little puppies as jumps. Some people were not very happy, but I still got my certificate. This is the first step toward my Good Citizens Certificate.

Due to my dietary issues, and the fact that I must eat prescription dog, I was released from the MWAM program. I am now training for my Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Therapy Dog certifications. Once I earn these certifications, I will travel to schools, nursing homes, and hospitals and help spread love and emotional support.

You can find me keeping cool underneath their tent just north of 18th Street. Stop by and say hi, I'd love to show you everything I'm learning! Be sure to follow me on Facebook so you can stay in touch and keep up with me on my journey to becoming a service dog. #tgif

March 14, 2018Oliver The Service Dog

My name is Oliver. I am proud to be named after Oliver Wendell Holmes who served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1902 to 1932.

I am a service dog in training through Mutts With A Mission, a non-profit organization located in Portsmouth, Virginia that trains service dogs for veterans and Wounded Warriors. I am being raised by Parks Zeigler, PLLC - Attorneys at Law, a law firm in Virginia Beach, in hopes of making a veteran’s life a little easier.

I am a Great Dane and at full size, I should stand 36 inches tall and weigh approximately 170 pounds, which will give me great strength and reach to be able to assist the veteran I am paired with. I came to Parks Zeigler at 16 weeks and 43 lbs. (as pictured below). During my puppy training, I will be living with Geri Clark, her family, and their five-year-old Standard Poodle named Rio. Geri is the Marketing Manager at Parks Zeigler and when I am not out and about in the community training, I can be found under the desk in her office.

Please join me on this journey as I grow and learn to become the best service dog possible.
