Alex grew up in Orlando, Florida. While his father comes from a long line of Floridians, Alex's mother is from Virginia. After graduating from Boone High School in Florida, he attended Wake Forest University. At Wake, a small liberal arts university, Alex became a stalwart Demon Deacon. He completed a double major in math and history, graduating magna cum laude in 2005. After a summer of working two jobs, he began law school at Marshall Wythe Law School at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Alex chose William & Mary because of its strong academic reputation, deep historical traditions, and his desire to stay in Virginia.
Alex started his legal career at the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in Wythe County. He worked for two other offices in his quest for the right combination of practice area, fellowship, and reward before choosing to join our team. During his nearly six years as a prosecutor, Alex learned the ins and outs of trial work. One of the draws to our firm was our use of technology in the practice of law - it took what Alex was already doing to the next level. Alex started working with the firm in 2014 and his time in private practice has honed his skills further.
Alex was a member of the Virginia State Bar’s Young Lawyer’s Conference Board of Governors for four years, from 2011-2015. During that time, he was involved in many activities, such as the "No Bills Night" program. Alex remained involved in the Young Lawyer’s Conference, chairing the Board Match Observers program for the next two years. Upon joining the firm, Alex became an active member of the Virginia Beach Bar Association, the Norfolk/Portsmouth Bar Association, and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.
Alex volunteers his time for the CLASS program providing pro bono legal representation to abused family members who need protective orders. He also volunteers as a mock trial coach for the Norfolk/Portsmouth Bar’s mock trial program. In that program, attorneys train middle school students how to present a case at trial. In 2017, a team that Alex coached with another attorney was selected for a final round. Alex is also involved in the William & Mary South Hampton Roads Alumni Association in 2015 and became its Vice President in May of 2017.
Alex enjoys contrasting his strong background in history with exploring new technologies and new boundaries in the law. He is an avid ballroom dancer (he competed for over a decade) and gun enthusiast. He also learned how to grill and smoke numerous culinary delights in recent years.
When not at the office, Alex loves to spend as much time as possible with Beth, his lovely wife whom he married in 2014. As a number’s junky, Alex loves that he met Beth on the twelfth day of the twelfth month of the twelfth year of this century. He has travelled extensively along the East Coast and anticipates spending time with his wife Beth and their two bulldogs, Winston and Punky, before they start a family.
