What To Do If You Have Been In a Car Accident
If you were involved in an auto collision there is a checklist of actions which you would be wise to follow .
Stop your car and make sure that your passengers are OK. Exchange identification and insurance information with the other driver. Be careful
what statements you make to the other driver. If you think that the other driver will attempt to leave the scene be sure to write down his license plate number.
Always call the police, and make sure that a police report is made. If the police will not come to the scene, you must go to the police station to
complete a police report. Be sure that the police report is accurate.
If you feel you have been injured, seek medical attention as soon as possible. Follow all recommendations of the doctors. Let the doctors
know that you were involved in an auto accident, since the doctors will reflect this in the medical records.
Notify your own insurance carrier that you have been involved in an auto accident. You will be wise to consult with an attorney before speaking
with or giving a recorded statement to the other driver's insurance company. The other driver's insurance company may ask questions and
elicit answers which could be harmful to any damage claim that you might subsequently make.
Contact your attorney within 24 hours of the accident to be advised of your legal rights.
